Lyra Laserscope for Hair Removal
return to services
Ideal for dark or tanned skin!
The principal reason for this design was to produce a system that would be safe and effective on all skin types, including very dark skinned and tanned patients. Before Lyra Systems became available, no other laser could be used on all skin tones.
What areas of the body can be treated with Laser Hair Removal?
Any body part of men and women can be safely treated with hair removal lasers.
Who are good candidates for Laser Hair Removal?
Individuals with coarse, dark hair (brown and black) and light skin have the best laser hair removal results. This is due to the melanin or pigment in the follicle by which the laser energy is absorbed. The Laserscope Laser has now made it possible to treat skin of all colors using a cold handpiece and cool gel. For those with blond, red, or white hair, electrolysis is the treatment of choice for you.
Why is Laser Hair Removal an effective treatment?
Each laser pulse treats approximately a dime to nickel sized area. The amount of time required for a treatment depends on the size of the area to be treated. For example, upper lip 5-8 minutes, bikini area 20-30 minutes, and a full back will take 1-1 1/2 hours.
How many laser hair removal treatments will I need?
Approximately 6 treatments depending on the area being treated, spaced 6-8 weeks apart on the body and 4-6 weeks on the face.
What causes hair growth?
Excessive hair growth is caused by heredity and ethnic background. It is often a result of normal biological changes that women undergo throughout life, such as puberty, pregnancy, menopause and old age. These are the main life changes that can effect hormone fluctuations in the body. Any one of these changes may cause an increase in hair growth in areas that never had hair before, or cause a small to moderate problem area to worsen. Other causes of hair growth can be associated with certain medications, stress and obesity. More seriously, the cause can be an abnormality in the endocrine system such as irregular menstrual cycles, ovarian disorders; such as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), and thyroid abnormalities.
Do temporary hair removal methods stimulate hair growth?
Yes, waxing, tweezing and depilatory creams are amongst the top culprits for stimulating hair growth. When a hair root is pulled at or tugged at to remove it, a blood supply rushes to the area nourishing the hair follicle. When this process is done regularly the result is growth of very coarse deep rooted hairs. clients are surprised to learn that years of waxing and/or tweezing have played a role in making the hair growth worse.
Is Laser Hair Removal uncomfortable?
There is some discomfort associated with laser hair removal treatment. Stress, fatigue, caffeine, menses and pain tolerance can influence what you feel. There are very effective topical anesthetics available that we use for those who need it.
Why Laser Hair Removal versus Electrolysis?
Because FINALLY THERE IS A FASTER WAY! Laser hair removal is highly recommended for large areas such as the back, legs, bikini area and/or thighs. On a good laser hair removal candidate the larger areas work very quickly. A few ELECTROLYSIS treatments may be recommended following a laser series for scattered fine regrowth.
